App icon is not square
Most platforms expect 1:1 artwork. Crop or pad to a square canvas before generating store and launcher sizes.

Apple’s current guidance centers on 1024 × 1024 layered assets and appearance variants; Google Play requires an exact 512 × 512 store icon; Android adaptive icons use layered assets; Chrome uses four primary extension sizes; and maskable PWAs need safe-zone-aware artwork.
| Platform | Primary asset | Key issue |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | 1024 × 1024 master or layered icon workflow | Appearance modes and layered rendering |
| Google Play | 512 × 512 PNG, maximum 1024 KB | Platform applies mask and outer shadow |
| Android | Foreground and background adaptive layers | Artwork must survive multiple masks |
| Chrome | 16, 32, 48 and 128 px | Legibility at very small sizes |
| PWA | Standard and maskable icons | Important artwork must remain in safe zone |
Step 1
Choose a PNG, JPG or WebP file. It stays on your device.
Step 2
Check the same artwork for Apple, Google Play, Android, Chrome and PWAs.
Step 3
See required fixes separately from design recommendations.
Step 4
Resize, convert, reposition and download platform-specific files.
The checker processes your image locally in your browser. The uploaded artwork is not sent to IconCreator servers, stored in an account or used to train image-generation models.
Most platforms expect 1:1 artwork. Crop or pad to a square canvas before generating store and launcher sizes.
Play listing icons must be a 512 × 512 PNG no larger than 1024 KB. Resize exactly, flatten transparency and compress before upload.
Transparent corners often look like pre-rounded artwork. Add a full-bleed background so the platform can apply its own mask cleanly.
If rounded corners are baked into the pixels, the store or launcher mask can create a double-rounded look. Prefer square full-bleed artwork.
Adaptive icons are clipped differently by OEM masks. Keep important artwork inside the safe zone and supply separate foreground and background layers.
Maskable icons should keep the main symbol inside a centered circle with a radius of about 40% of the icon width.
Toolbar and context-menu icons are tiny. Simplify the mark, increase contrast and test the real 16 × 16 export.
Fine lines, textures and small text disappear on home screens. Use fewer shapes and a stronger silhouette.
Light-on-light or dark-on-dark symbols fail on many wallpapers. Check contrast against both light and dark surfaces.
A flat PNG cannot fully validate Icon Composer layered appearances. Preview dark and tinted simulations here, then finish appearance modes in Apple’s tools.
We separate each result into:
An objective platform specification such as dimensions or file size.
Official or practical guidance that improves rendering but may not block upload.
A browser-based visual analysis such as readability or safe-area risk.
A design, policy or ownership issue that cannot be confirmed from pixels alone.
Each rule includes an official source, classification, last-reviewed date, platform, asset type and tool limitation.
This tool cannot inspect your app bundle, Xcode project, Android resources, trademarks or store review decisions.
Yes. The checker runs entirely in your browser with no signup. Free fixes cover resize, convert, compress, background fill and platform exports. IconCreator CTAs appear when a design rewrite would help more than a technical fix.
No. Analysis and conversion stay on your device. Files are not uploaded, stored in an account or used to train image-generation models.
Apple master icons, Google Play listing icons, Android launcher appearance previews, Chrome extension icons and PWA standard/maskable icons.
No. Adaptive icons need separate foreground and background layers (and ideally a monochrome layer). The checker can preview masks on a flat image, then points you to the Adaptive Icon Checker for full validation.
No. A pass means measurable technical checks succeeded for the selected platforms. Policy, trademark, misleading artwork and review decisions are outside this tool.
PNG, JPG and WebP for the MVP. HEIC, PSD, AI, EPS, PDF and animated formats are not supported yet. SVG may be added later with careful sanitization.
A single score would mix hard requirements with subjective design advice. We report technical readiness and visual recommendations separately.
Not reliably. Adding a background can make the file technically full-square, but baked rounded artwork may still look double-rounded after the platform mask. Redesigning a full-bleed icon is the better fix.
