Frequently asked questions
How do I check a website's favicon?+
Enter the website address above. The checker reads the page's icon links, /favicon.ico, /apple-touch-icon.png and the web app manifest, then shows each icon and what's missing.
Why doesn't Google show my favicon?+
Google needs a square icon that's a multiple of 48 px (48×48, 96×96…) or an SVG, linked from your homepage and not blocked by robots.txt. New icons can take days or weeks to appear.
What size should a favicon be?+
32×32 for browser tabs, with 16×16 inside favicon.ico. Add 180×180 for the Apple touch icon and 192×192 and 512×512 for installable web apps.
Do I still need favicon.ico?+
Yes, as a fallback. Some browsers, crawlers and feed readers request /favicon.ico directly.
Why does my old favicon still show?+
Browsers cache favicons for a long time. Open the site in a private window, and add a version to the filename when you change the icon.
Can it check sites on my local network?+
No. Only public websites can be checked.
