Android App Icon Sizes: Adaptive, Legacy and Google Play
Short answer
Adaptive icons use two 108×108 dp layers with the logo inside the middle 66×66 dp. Legacy icons are 48×48 dp: 48 px at mdpi up to 192 px at xxxhdpi. Google Play needs a separate 512×512 PNG, max 1024 KB, as a full square.
Checked against Android: Adaptive icons, Android: Screen densities, Google Play icon specification and Android Studio: Create app icons in October 2026.
Sizes in pixels
| Folder | Density | Legacy icon (48 dp) | Adaptive layer (108 dp) |
|---|---|---|---|
mipmap-mdpi | 1x | 48×48 | 108×108 |
mipmap-hdpi | 1.5x | 72×72 | 162×162 |
mipmap-xhdpi | 2x | 96×96 | 216×216 |
mipmap-xxhdpi | 3x | 144×144 | 324×324 |
mipmap-xxxhdpi | 4x | 192×192 | 432×432 |
| Google Play | — | 512×512 | — |
Some launchers show icons up to 25% larger than the density calls for, so ship every mipmap folder.
