iOS App Icon Generator: Design, 1024 PNG and AppIcon.appiconset
Short answer
An iOS app icon generator needs to give you two things: a 1024×1024 PNG with no transparency, and an AppIcon.appiconset folder you can drop into Xcode. IconCreator designs the icon and exports both. If you already have artwork, the free resizer makes the same files from it.
Checked against Apple: Configuring your app icon and Apple HIG: App icons in October 2026.

What a good iOS icon needs
- A full square. iOS rounds the corners itself.
- No transparent pixels in the default icon.
- One clear symbol that still reads at 60×60 points.
- Optional dark (transparent background) and tinted (grayscale) variants for iOS 18 and later.
Common App Store icon errors
| You see | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| ITMS-90704: Missing app icon / marketing icon | No 1024×1024 PNG in the AppIcon set | Add a 1024×1024 PNG to AppIcon (Single Size) |
| ITMS-90717: Invalid App Store icon | The 1024 icon has transparency or an alpha channel | Re-export without alpha on a solid background |
| Icon blank or the old one on device | Wrong icon set selected, or a cached install | Check App Icons Source in General, delete the app, rebuild |
FAQ
Do I need every iOS size?
No. Current Xcode builds every size from the single 1024×1024 image.
Is the exported icon App Store ready?
The 1024 PNG is opaque and square, which is what the App Store asks for.
Does it make dark and tinted icons?
Not yet. Add those in Xcode's Appearance menu, or build the icon in Icon Composer.
Can I use my own design?
Yes. The free app icon resizer makes the Xcode files from an image you have.
